Shanghai's Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) served 2.02 million passengers during the week-long Chinese Lunar New Year holiday from Jan 27 to Feb 2, up 10.21 percent on last year, according to Shanghai Airport ity (SAA).
Aircraft movements increased 5.39 percent from the same period last year to 13,790. The daily peak occurred on Feb 2 with over 320,000 passengers and 2,025 aircraft movements.
To deal with the increasing need of overnight parking at PVG, the airport executed a contingency plan on Jan 29 to provide some 2,000 temporary car parking spaces and increase the shuttle bus frequency between terminals and far away parking lots to better serve passengers.
In addition, the two airports also gave early-warning information on parking shortages to encourage passengers taking public transport to get to or leave the airport via TV, radio, internet and other media reports.
Other convenient services to help PVG and SHA smoothly deal with this year's travel rush and make things more efficient, included adding counters for buying and endorsing train tickets, quick security lines for those with special needs, such as the elderly, disabled or pregnant, more volunteers in taxi pick-up areas and longer operation times for shuttle buses to urban areas.
