The sixth Asian Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (ABACE 2017) came to a close at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport on April 13
The three-day exhibition was sponsored by the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), Shanghai Airport ity (SAA) and Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA).
Over 180 companies took part in the event, about 40 percent of which from Asia, joined by attendees from more than 40 countries.
Thirty-three planes were displayed at the exhibition, covering all pedigrees of business aircraft, from piston-engine airplanes to intercontinental business jets, and even an air ambulance and helicopter.
A particular highlight was a solar-powered unmanned plane, which was displayed for the first time in the exhibition.
A seminar on business aviation development was hosted by CAAC East China Regional Administration, SAA and NBAA on the opening day, attended by senior management of SAA and officials from the administration.
The ABACE has been held in Shanghai five time previously, becoming an international communication platform for the business aviation industry in China and Asia.
The market potential of Shanghai’s business aviation is huge, with more than 20 percent year-on-year growth in the sector in the past few years, according to Jiang Huaiyu, an official from the administration.
The seventh ABACE will be held in Shanghai from April 17 to April 19 in 2018.
NBAA:
The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) is a non-profit and nonpartisan corporation and advocacy group based in Washington, DC, United States. The association represents more than 11,000 companies. Founded in 1947, the NBAA is an industry organization representing companies that rely on general aviation aircraft. The Association provides more than 100 products and services to the business aviation community. NBAA aims to create an environment that fosters business aviation in the United States and around the world.
AsBAA:
Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) is a non-profit corporation based in Hong Kong. AsBAA aims to promote the overall development of business aviation in Asian regions. It co-hosts the annual Asian based ABACE show together with NBAA in the month of April at the Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, China. AsBAA also hosts an annual awards & charity gala event in association with Orbis Charity, typically held every November.
SAA:
Shanghai Airport ity (SAA) was established in 1998. It is a state-owned enterprise directly under the leadership of Shanghai Municipal Government, and operates both Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). SAA aims to make Shanghai airports the most attractive core air hub in the Asia-Pacific region. At present, Shanghai has four airport terminals and six airstrips, 150 domestic connections and 132 intl & regional (HK and Macao) connections. The annual passenger volume of PVG and SHA reached 100 million in 2016. After London, New York, Tokyo and Atlanta, Shanghai is the fifth member of 100-million-level aviation city club in the world. Cargo volume at PVG has ranked third in the world for the past nine years.
